Activated Charcoal
Deel
Also known as: activated carbon
In Elevate: 1000mg activated charcoal per gummy in Activated Charcoal Gummies.
What is activated charcoal?
Activated charcoal is carbon, usually from coconut shells or wood, heated to create a very porous surface. That huge surface area lets it bind to other substances in the gut.
Background
Charcoal has a long history of use in many cultures, and today it's commonly taken for occasional wind and bloating after meals.
What research is looking at
Small studies have looked at activated charcoal and occasional gas and bloating, with some positive results. Because it binds so readily, research has also shown it can reduce how much of some other substances the body absorbs.
How to take it
Take 1 gummy when needed, after meals, with a glass of water. It isn't designed for long-term daily use.
Who should check first
Take activated charcoal at least 2 hours apart from any medicines or other supplements, including the contraceptive pill, because it can stop them from being absorbed properly. Speak to your doctor first if you take any prescription medication, have a digestive condition or constipation, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
