When to Take Ashwagandha: Morning or Night?
Share
Ashwagandha is one of the best-known herbs in the world, and one of the most common questions we get is simple: when should I take it? Here’s a practical guide.
What is ashwagandha?
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is a shrub whose root has been used in Ayurvedic practice for centuries. It is known as an adaptogen, a herb traditionally used to help the body cope with everyday stress.
Morning or evening?
There’s no single right answer. Some people prefer it in the morning as part of their daily routine; others prefer it in the evening as part of winding down. What matters most is taking it at a time you will remember every day. If you find it makes you feel relaxed, the evening may suit you better.
With or without food?
Ashwagandha can be taken either way. If you have a sensitive stomach, taking it with a meal may be more comfortable.
How long before you notice anything?
Ashwagandha is not an instant-effect herb. In studies, people typically take it daily for several weeks, so give it time and be consistent rather than expecting results on day one.
Who should avoid it?
- Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding.
- People with a thyroid or autoimmune condition, unless their doctor approves.
- People taking sedatives, thyroid medication, blood-pressure or blood-sugar medication, unless their doctor approves.
If in doubt, speak to your healthcare provider before starting.
